First show with work from 1973/74

Vaudville / The mirrors are set

wood / metal / glass 1973

I wanted to get a show out as quickly as possible as a punctuation away from Wimbledon. I was working a lot of hours for Ivor Abrahams, my only source of income. The materials I had were mainly recycled from my degree show or found in the local area. This piece 'waved' as you moved around it because the arms were fixed by crude springs. The studio floor was wood so as people walked around the arms gently moved up and down. The wall pieces did the same.

Composed of thin wire, with pieces of cloth attached, they were affected by any air currents. The whole show had a 'quivering' feel to it.

I had an Arts Council grant for the show of £100. Norbet Lynton and others from the Council came to the opening and, as usual, I blew it by saying I'd spent the money on a suit and booze. Strangely, I never got another grant.

This was made shortly after the show and abandened.
